Nationality: Irish

Bio:

Bram Stoker was a renowned Irish author best known for his gothic novel Dracula, published in 1897. He was born in 1847 in Dublin, where he attended Trinity College. While studying at university, Stoker was struck by temporary paralysis that left him bedridden for several years. During his recuperation, he began reading works of horror and mystery which would later influence his own writing.

After graduating, Stoker went on to have a successful career working as the business manager for the Lyceum Theatre in London, where he oversaw productions and got to know the actor Henry Irving quite well. Though he spent decades focused on his administrative work in the theater world, Stoker continued writing novels and short stories on the side throughout his life. However, it was not until the publication of Dracula in his late 40s that he achieved widespread fame and recognition as an author.

Dracula has gone on to become one of the best-selling and most influential horror novels ever written. The detailed portrayal of the mysterious vampire count seeking refuge in Victorian England tapped into contemporary fears and obsessions. Stoker crafted a gothic masterpiece that has spawned countless film, television and literary adaptations. While he only published a handful of other works before his death in 1912, Dracula cemented Bram Stoker’s enduring legacy as the creator of modern vampire fiction.
