Nationality: Czech

Bio:

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) was a pioneering German-language author from Prague, Bohemia. Often cited as one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, Kafka is best known for his surreal and often nightmarish tales that explore themes of alienation, existential anxiety, and the absurdity of the human condition. Some of his most famous works include The Metamorphosis, in which a man wakes up transformed into a giant insect, and The Trial, about a man arrested and prosecuted by a remote and inaccessible authority with the nature of his crime revealed to neither him nor the reader. Despite only publishing a small portion of his writings in his lifetime, Kafka left behind an immense collection of unfinished novels and short stories that have since become classics of modern literature and continue to inspire new generations of readers worldwide with their profound examinations of bureaucracy, totalitarianism, and the individual’s isolation.
