Bio:
Lewis Carroll is one of the most famous authors of children’s literature of all time, even though that’s not how he started out. His real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson and he was born in 1832 in a small English village. He grew up with a big family and ended up going to Oxford University where he became a mathematician and logic expert.
In his free time at Oxford, Dodgson enjoyed taking photographic portraits of little girls. One of those girls was named Alice Liddell, the daughter of an Oxford dean. On a sunny day in 1862, Dodgson entertained Alice and her sisters with an imaginative story he told them as they rowed down the Thames. Two years later, at the urging of Alice Liddell, Dodgson published the story as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland under the pen name he became famous by – Lewis Carroll. And thus one of the most beloved children’s books of all time was born!
